A SiLENT WAY...

Our last class it was only presentations. There were 8 individuals and including mine. The first person who did it was Marlene Rivera. She talked about “a Silent way”. When I heard the name, I had no idea what it meant. According to what I found in Wikipedia, “The Silent Way is an approach to language teaching designed to enable students to become independent, autonomous and responsible learners. It is part of a more general pedagogical approach to teaching and learning created by Caleb Gattegno. It is constructivist in nature, leading students to develop their own conceptual models of all the aspects of the language. The best way of achieving this is to help students to be experimental learners. The Silent Way allows this” (Wikipedia, Nov 2008). But even after reading this, it’s not completely clear what it is, I mean, if I hadn’t seen Marlene’s presentation, I couldn’t figure it out. Marlene was very clear explaining about this topic and she told us how it works. This works through colors and sounds, every sound is represented by a color and in this way when people see a color immediately associated this color to a particular sound.
According to what Marlene explained us, this method works on teaching any language.
Marlene was very clear with all the info that she said, and also I could see that she had researched about this topic because she understood very well what she was talking about.
I think I am going to search for info about it, and maybe someday try to teach using this way, who knows…
